Top 4 Healthy Ways to Treat Dandruff

Skip the dandruff shampoo; there are many natural dandruff treatments that can help get rid of those embarrassing flakes. Endless Beauty went to straight to  Amita Moticka, Celebrity Hairstylist  and diPietro Todd Academy Educator, for tips for how to treat dandruff without the chemicals. Below, Moticka has  provided 4 excellent ways to treat dandruff naturally:

Moticka believes that healthy hair begins with a healthy body. Before you begin external treatments for dandruff, make sure you are hydrating and maintaining a healthy diet that suits your body, make sure to include plant and or fish oils.

First, determine if you have “”oily build up dandruff ” or “dry scalp dandruff”. For either type you should begin by pre-treating or prepping the scalp by exfoliating. There are several ways to do this. Here are a few examples:

1) Combine 2 tablespoons of brown sugar and 1 tablespoon of jojoba oil. Make a paste and apply to wet scalp and massage for several minutes. Rinse, shampoo and condition accordingly.

2) Pulverize 1 cup of raw almonds in a blender and add 2 tablespoons coconut oil. Make a paste. Apply to wet scalp and massage for several minutes. Rinse shampoo and condition as usual.

3) Brush dry scalp with a scalp brush. Mix 2 tablespoons of olive and tea tree oil and apply to brushed scalp. Massage rinse shampoo and condition as usual.

4) If you have very oily dandruff, a clay mask or baking soda and lemon mixed into a paste are good ways to address this as a pre-treatment.

After this is completed, if you have dry flaky scalp, follow the steps above. When hair is clean and dry, apply, with fingertips, a tiny bit of jojoba or Shea butter to clean scalp and massage in. Always be careful to keep the oils out of the hair.

If you have oily flaky scalp, follow the above directions. When the hair is clean and damp or dry, apply, with finger tips, a few drops of tea tree oil.  Massage in and style as usual, again making sure to keep oils off of the hair shaft.
